Kwazulu Natal Transport MEC, Siboniso Duma, has lamented yet another horrific traffic accident in the province, saying another dark cloud hangs over the province.
Duma rushed to the scene of a head-on collission between a car transporting learners and a truck on the N2 at Mandeni on Friday morning.
Authorities said eight people, including seven learners, were killed in the horrific accident.
In a statement on social media, he said officers reported that the driver of a seven-seater light motor vehicle lost control of the car.
"The car went over to the other lane and collided with a truck, causing it to veer off the road and overturn.
"What saddens us is that the victims of the road accident include young people with a brighter future," MEC Dlomo said.
