Law Society cautions magistrates over strike threat

The Law Society of South Africa says magistrates must act with caution before deciding to strike over pay.
The Law Society said on Thursday that there are many legal professionals who are unemployed or under-employed, and who would gladly accept an opportunity to work as magistrates.
Society spokespersons, Krish Govender and Jan Stemmett, said magistrates should use all mechanisms available to them if there was a dispute, adding that striking was unacceptable.
The Judicial Officers' Association of SA has threatened to bring lower courts to a standstill from Monday.
