The Independent Electoral Commission says several municipal by-elections will held around the country on Wednesday.
The IEC says a total of 15 vacant wards will be contested by 37 candidates, two of whom are independents while the rest represent 10 political parties.
In the Eastern Cape one by-election will take place in Nyandeni in the Libode district.
The ward will be contested between four parties and became vacant due to the death of a councillor.
In the Western Cape, one by-election will be held in Cape Town, while by-elections also take place in Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Northern Cape
The IEC, says a total of 70 378 voters are registered in the 15 wards and 73 voting districts where by-elections will be taking place.
