Land invaders blamed for burning COGTA offices

The MEC for cooperative governance and traditional affairs in KwaZulu Natal has condemned what he called the "barbaric burning to the ground of the department's offices".

This after protesters threw what appeared to be a petrol bomb at the premises on Tuesday.

The Department says Thursday's attack was believed to be related to the protest by informal settlement dwellers and land invaders angry over a government crackdown on lawlessness.

MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube says it is direct sabotage of the state infrastructure and was condemned in the strongest possible terms.

He called on law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of the perpetrators.

The same offices were attacked by gunmen last November who removed several television screens and computers from the building and also hijacked a department employee’s vehicle although it was later recovered.
