Search and rescue teams have discovered the body of another victim of the Ladysmith Christmas Eve flash floods, bringing the local death toll from the disaster to 24.
Mayor of the Alfred Duma Local Municipality, Zama Sibisi headed up an extensive search on Friday.
He said a man's body was found while teams were scouring Peter's River.
Sibisa said the search would continue on Saturday.
Seven members of a family who were killed during the flood were laid to rest on Wednesday.
Three adults from the Msimango family and four children died after the heavy rains caused the Bellspruit River to burst its banks.
The rushing waters swept the family's vehicle into a river.
Sibisi attended the funeral.
He said there was not much that the municipality can do “because nobody expected the stream to overflow”.
“Usually we have a problem when it is raining and the river flooding the town and it is not the case in these previously heavy rains,” he said.
