Nine suspected armed robbers were killed in a shootout with police in two incidents confirmed by Kwazulu Natal police on Monday.
Police spokesperson, Thulani Zwane, said that three suspects robbers were killed in a shootout with police task team members on the N3 just before the Marianhill Toll Plaza.
In a second incident six suspected armed robbers were killed in another gun battle with police at Mpophomeni near Howick in the KZN midlands.
Zwane said the two incidents were related.
He said the gang had planned a robbery in Bulwer but it was thwarted when officers started following them and the two groups split up.
Zwane said one suspected armed robber was wounded and taken to hospital for treatment.
