Traffic on the N2 in Queen Nandi Drive in Durban as a result of a cash-in-transit robbery early on Thursday morning.
Reaction Unit South Africa said multiple shots were fired during the incident that occurred on the north bound lane.
The security group says its members and Verulam police were conducting a Crime Prevention Operation on the north coast of Durban just after 5.30 when they received reports of a cash-in-transit robbery was in progress.
"Reaction officers and SAPS officials immediately routed to the call."
According to a Facebook post, they rushed to the scene where it was established that approximately 20 suspects with high calibre rifles opened fire on a vehicle transporting cash.
RUSA says the suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash prior to the arrival of firs responders.
No injuries were reported even though several vehicle accidents were reported as motorists tried to avoid the gunfire.
