A Phoenix man has landed himself in major legal trouble - for allegedly spreading a fake message that claimed his ex-girlfriend had contracted COVID-19.
Police say the message, which had been widely circulated on WhatsApp and social media, featured the woman's photo.
It claimed that she and her brother had refused treatment and were a danger to society.
SAPS spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo says the 30-year-old ex-boyfriend has been arrested
He says police went to the house of the subject (woman in the photo) and it was discovered that she was not infected with Covid-19.
The woman opened up a criminal case and the suspect was arrested.
He is currently in custody to appear in court on Tuesday.
