Kwazulu Natal police have arrested a man they believe was a hitman behind several murders at the notorious Glebelands Hostel in Durban.
Thirty-five-year-old Thobani Mahobo will be back in court on 22 February following his arrest this week on two counts of murder.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Tembeka Mbele, said he was arrested at a hideout in Lamontville.
Mahobo is a suspect in the killing of two men at the hostel in November 2020.
Mbele said the accused has a pending case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm case against him after he attacked an ex-girlfriend in her room at the hostel last June.
She said investigations will also focus on any potential links to other serious crimes in KZN.
Meanwhile, Mbele said a man who was arrested by the Glebelands Task Team for being in possession of a firearm and ammunition has been jailed for eight years in the Umlazi Regional Court.
