The Road Traffic Management Corporation has welcomed the conviction and sentencing of a man arrested for being three times over the legal drinking limit.
RTMC spokesperson, Simon Zwane, said Mthunzi Dladla was sentenced this week in the Pietermaritzburg magistrate’s court to three years direct imprisonment or a fine of R15,000.
Dladla was arrested on New Year’s Eve in the Pietermaritzburg central business district.
Zwane said “Dladla recorded a reading of 0.85mg per 1000ml of breath which is above the legal limit set at 0.24mg per 1000ml of breath”, at the time of his arrest.
He said he was found guilty on two charges relating to driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor, as well as reckless or negligent driving.
