Police in KwaZulu Natal discovered two warehouses south of Durban on Thursday that are used to store expired food.
Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda says items such as canned fish, beans, baby food, spices, expired alcohol, and even counterfeit prescription medication were discovered.
He says the products were found stored with hazardous chemicals such as pesticides.
During the operation, police also discovered two other warehouses used to store counterfeit big-brand clothing items worth millions of rand.
Colonel Netshiunda says investigations are underway to locate the people responsible.
They will also intensify operations at the harbour to detect vessels coming into the country.
