A new gunfire detection system installed in the Kruger National Park will help track potential rhino poachers.
The Saturday Star reports that the product "Shot-Spotter" was initially developed by Californian company SST Inc. to alert US police to incidents of gunfire.
Microphones were reportedly planted in undisclosed areas of the park, as part of the pilot project.
The newspaper says when a shot is fired, the origin of the sound would be triangulated and sent to the service provider in the United States.
The park would be alerted of the sound's co-ordinates within 30 seconds.
The system is able to detect sound as far as three kilometres away.
