Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, for extradition proceedings launched by his home country.
The hearing was postponed earlier in July, after the court heard that there were negotiations on the matter. Another lawyer withdrew from representing Krejcir because of financial restraints.
Krejcir reportedly told the court that he has to prepare an application to have the curator in charge of his family estate to pay for his legal fees. He also said that his assets were under a preservation order.
The convicted drug dealer is currently on trial for the murder of alleged Bedfordview drug dealer Sam Issa.
On February 23, in another court case the South Gauteng High Court sentenced Krejcir and co-accused Desai Luphondo to 35 years imprisonment on charges of kidnapping, attempted murder and attempted possession of drugs following their conviction last year.
Krejcir, who had become a fugitive from his country the Czech Republic in 2005 and resided in the Seychelles, arrived in South Africa two years later under a false name.
In 2012, Krejcir was sentenced in absentia to eight years imprisonment for fraud in his home country.
