Gift of the Givers head Imtiaz Sooliman says a sighting of kidnapped Bloemfontein school teacher Pierre Korkie has been confirmed by three different sources.
Tuesday marks the one year anniversary of the day Korkie and his wife Yolande were captured by rebels in Taiz in Yemen.
Yolande was released in January but there had been no word of whether or not Pierre was still alive after a deadline was reached earlier in the year to pay a ransom of $3m.
Sooliman says the recent sightings have renewed hope for the successful negotiation of Korkie's release.
He says the negotiator who initially handed Yolande over to Gift of the Giver's representative Anas-al Hamati has since been killed but doesn't believe this will be an obstacle in negotiations going forward.
He says there has been a lot of tribal movement in the region due to the war there, which is how the recent sighting came about.
