Police in the Western Cape have launched a manhunt for suspects involved in the murder of the 78-year-old butchery owner from Murraysburg in the Karoo.
The victim, Pieter Retief, was tied up with a steel wire at his house which borders the butchery on Sunday and presumably beaten to death.
His wife Christle was also assaulted but survived the incident and has been discharged from the hospital.
Police found Retief outside the burning house with multiple injuries on Sunday afternoon around 1:00 p.m.
The house and the butchery were set on fire.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies says the body of a man who was believed to be one of the suspects was found under the rubble.
He says at least three other attackers are still on the run.
The cause of the incident is not yet known.
The Retief's are longtime residents of the town.
