Illegal medication found in Pistorius’s cell – Nel

State prosecutor Gerrie Nel says illegal medication was found in Oscar Pistorius’s prison cell on July 19, 2015.

He listed two anti depressant medications, molipaxin and cipralex.

Nel was cross examining Professor Jonathan Scholtz, a psychologist who assessed the former paralympian in 2014 and again in May 2016.

He disputed Scholtz’s findings that Pistorius had shown remorse, and instead argued that it had been self-pity.

He said Pistorius had “temper tantrums” while in prison, and reminded the court that Pistorius had been found to be a poor witness.

Nel was trying to counter the pyschologist’s notion that Pistorius was a fragile, “broken” man.

Nel also questioned Oscar Pistorius’s decision to grant a British broadcaster an interview on how Reeva Steenkamp died at his hand but refusing to testify in court.

Scholtz, informed the court that the paralympian won’t be testifying because “his condition is severe”.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel, however, pointed out that he was able to grant an interview to ITV, which is to be aired later this month.

“I suppose in an interview with the TV he can’t be put under the same pressure as in a court of law,” Scholtz said.

But, Nel was not convinced, replying there could be an alternative explanation for Pistorius’s decision.

“Or, there won’t be anybody that would check his version to see if it’s the truth because the interviewer will let you go?” Nel asked.

Scholtz insisted a discussion during an interview might be easier for Pistorius than testifying.

Sentencing proceedings were adjourned to this afternoon when the next witness will testify.
