Huge drugs bust at Cape Town airport

Crystal Meth (tik) with a street value of around R9 million was confiscated at the Cape Town International Airport, Western Cape police said on Thursday.

Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said that the passenger arrived in Cape Town on Tuesday, on a flight from Lago in Nigeria via OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg and failed to collect one of his bags.

The bag was taken to the lost and found section.

“Failure of the passenger, whose particulars are known, to collect his bag raised the suspicion of authorities and upon further investigation it was found that the contents was Crystal Meth weighing 26 kg with an estimated street value of R 9 million,” Traut said.

“The suspect is yet to be apprehended, and the circumstances surrounding the discovery is are under investigation.”
