Seven houses were set alight on in Khuma near Stilfontein on Tuesday, North West police said.
Spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said the police have been monitoring a service delivery protest in Khuma since Monday.
"According to information received, seven houses were burnt today [Tuesday]. A case of public violence has been opened for investigation and no arrest has been made," he said.
The houses were reportedly owned by local councillors.
The protest comes as permanent delegates to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) were in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality in North West, to interact directly with the public on service delivery issues.
These included the backlog in housing, water infrastructure maintenance and waste collection among others.
