A 34-year-old man is expected to appear in the White River Magistrate's Court in Mpumalanga on Monday after he allegedly stole a firearm over the weekend which he used to kill its owner.
Police say the man hitched a ride with the 46-year-old Andre Thulare and his brother over the weekend when they stopped at a fuel station to grab some lunch.
Thulare had his firearm hidden in his vehicle and left the hitchhiker alone in the car.
Police say when Thulare returned, the suspect was gone and he saw that his firearm, had been stolen.
Thulare chased after the suspect who had fled on foot.
Police say when the suspect noticed that he was being chased by a car he fired shots killing Thulare.
Police managed to corner the suspect, who was found in possession of the gun.
