Eshowe detectives have arrested a 23-year-old hitchhiker in connection with the murder of a school principal from that area.
Colonel Thembeka Mbele said on Monday morning school principal, Busisiwe Nzuza, offered a lift to a hitch hiker from Empangeni towards Eshowe.
“While on the way near Nkwalini, the hitch hiker allegedly produced a firearm and demanded the vehicle from the principal,” said Mbele.
The 44-year-old principal was shot in the head and the assailant fled on foot.
In a statement on Tuesday, police said they had arrested a suspect in connection with the murder. He will appear in the Eshowe Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Police have warned motorists against giving lifts to strangers.
