 A Durban IT specialist has appeared in court for making a false claim to the police that he had been hijacked.

Fifty-two-year-old Leon van Rensburg sparked a large scale police hunt after he sent his daughter an SMS saying he had been hijacked.

He later told police that he had been kept hostage for 3 days.

Van Rensburg first appeared in court in October for subverting the course of justice.

His case was postponed until December 13th.
