A drug dealer and mastermind behind a drug trafficking operation was sentenced in the Pongola Magistrates court in Kwazulu Natal earlier this week.
The 45-year-old Maliki Erick Ngobeni was arrested in 2017 after the Hawks from Richards Bay received information about a vehicle travelling from Golela Port of Entry towards Pongola.
Police Spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo says police intercepted Ngobeni's vehicle on the N2 near Sitilo.
Police found 145 bags of heroin powder with an estimated street value of over a R100 million.
The Hawks' investigation revealed that the drugs were coming from Mozambique and was destined for Johannesburg.
Ngobeni was in custody since his arrest and sentenced to 15-years in prison on Monday.
