The Health Ministry said it had identified Rage 2020 events as potential “super-spreader” events after “a number of Covid19” cases were confirmed from the recent Ballito event in Kwazulu Natal.
In a statement on Sunday, Health Minister, Dr. Zweli Mkhize, said they were urging those learners who attended the KZN event to quarantine for 10 days and also get tested.
He also urged parents to take their children to be tested.
Mkhize said, “this is a clear illustration that large gatherings which involve the consumption of alcohol are a major risk and continue to undermine our efforts to contain the spread of the virus.”
The Health Minister pleaded with parents “to also exercise their parental prerogative and set boundaries on activities that their children, specifically the youth, can participate in.”
While the Health Minister’s statement also referred to Rage events in Plettenberg Bay and Jeffreys Bay, these have not yet happened.
According to the Rage website (https://ragefestival.co.za/), the Plett Rage has been rescheduled for 29 January to 6 Feb while Jeffreys Bay is scheduled from 15 to 22 December.
