The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) have warned of more arrests after they nabbed two men found at an clandestine drug laboratory in Terenure, Kempton Park.
“The two suspects aged 28 and 39 years were nabbed during a Crime Intelligence led by the Gauteng Hawks’ Organised Crime Unit, SAPS and Ekurhuleni Metro Police Mounted and Rapid Response Units,†said Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu of the Hawks.
“It is alleged that the duo have been on the police radar for some time and on Tuesday the team pounced on them whilst busy cooking drugs inside a well secured house on Dunlin Road, near Kempton Park.â€
Mulamu said CAT with an estimated value of R1.5 million and chemicals used to manufacture the drugs were confiscated.
In another bust, the Hawks on Monday recovered drugs worth R1 million at the OR Tambo International Airport.
Mulamu said the Hawks team received information regarding unattended luggage, which arrived on a flight from Nigeria SA061 on Monday morning.
“Upon searching the luggage, members recovered ephedrine weighing 20kg worth an estimated R1 million. No arrests have been made as yet, investigation continue,†said Mulamu.
Reacting to the drug busts, Lieutenant General Ntlemeza warned the Hawks will arrest anyone who is found to be dealing, manufacturing and or distribution of drugs.
“We were in Kempton Park as part of operation Expose and the community is responding by providing information. The future of this country depends on the collaboration between ourselves and our communities,†said Ntlemeza.
“To the drug peddlers, your days are numbered, we are coming, you can run but you cannot hide. We mean business and no criminal will stop us from cleaning our country from this heartless syndicates.â€
