The Hawks says an investigation, into whether a man defrauded the mother of one of the Waterkloof Four, is underway.
Spokesperson, Captain Paul Ramaloko yesterday confirmed that they were working on a fraud case, adding that no one had been arrested.
Beeld newspaper reported that Mariette Becker, the mother of Christoff Becker, had been blackmailed by a fellow prisoner of her son's.
The man allegedly demanded that Mariette Becker pay him R30,000 or else he would leak videos of her son, which he claimed could land him in trouble with the department of correctional services.
Becker and three others were released on parole in February, after being jailed for beating to death a homeless man in Pretoria in 2001.
Becker and one of his co-accused Frikkie du Preez were re-arrested five days later after footage emerged of them allegedly drinking alcohol and using a cellphone in prison.
On Friday, the High Court in Pretoria dismissed an urgent application for Becker's parole to be reinstated.
