The Hawks in the North West have confirmed that they have received a case of conspiracy to commit murder.
This after Premier Supra Mahumapelo's office announced that a plot to assassinate the premier came to light.
When asked to confirm whether charges have been laid at the Mahikeng police station and the case transferred to them, Hawks spokesperson Tlangelani Rikhotso told OFM News that they are currently "perusing the contents" of the case.
Mahumapelo's spokesperson Brian Setswambung said in a statement that the plot involved the hiring of hitmen, who have already been paid R250 000 and that they were to be paid a balance after eliminating Mahumapelo.
Meanwhile, the premier's security is expected to be beefed up in the coming days.
