The Hawks in Cape Town have made a breakthrough in their investigation into the murder on Sunday of two police officers from Bloekombos and Kraaifontein.
Colonel Katlego Mogale says a 32-year-old suspect has been arrested in Khayelitsha and will make his first court appearance on Tuesday.
Police have also identified the two officers who were killed in Sunday's ambush.
They were 46-year-old Sergeant Mnakwazo Mdoko and 28-year-old Constable Mninawa Breakfast.
Colonel Mogale says the two officers were gunned down while on patrol and both their firearms were stolen.
She says the investigation into their murder continues and there is the possibility of more arrests being made.
