The new lawyer appointed to represent a 17-year-old boy charged with a triple murder in Griekwastad, is seeking to have the case re-opened.
The trial of the youth resumed in the Kimberley High Court today after being adjourned in December.
Judge Frans Kgomo was due to hand down judgement at the time, when the youth fired his lawyer and appointed new legal counsel.
His lawyer, Riaan Bode, lodged an application today to reopen the case so that he can introduce new evidence.
Judge Kgomo said there had to be exceptional circumstances to do this, since closing arguments have already been presented.
The youth has been charged with the murder of Deon Steenkamp, his wife Christel and daughter Marthella on their farm in the Northern Cape in 2012.
