A 43-year-old man has been found guilty of four counts of rape that were committed in a cemetery in Tsakane township in Ekhuruleni in Gauteng.

The National Prosecuting Authority said Petetona Lebele, pleaded guilty to the crimes committed against three children, aged seven, 13, and 16 as well as a 32-year-old adult woman.

Spokesperson, Lumka Mahanjana, said the offences were committed between January 2017 and l August, when Lebele was arrested.

“In his guilty plea, he told the court that he targeted his victims when they were on their way to school or home. He also told the court that he would grab and drag them to the Tsakane cemetery where he raped them,” Mahanjana said.

She said the Pretoria High Court, sitting in Benoni, also heard that Lebele had two previous convictions for a 2008 robbery and a theft conviction in 2015.

Mahanjana said the matter was postponed to 19 April for sentencing proceedings to commence.
