The MEC for the Department of Education in Gauteng Matome Chiloane will visit the Geluksdal Secondary school in Brakpan on Friday following the fatal stabbing of a grade 10 learner.
The spokesperson for the Department Steve Mabona says it is alleged that on Thursday, three grade 10 learners were pepper spraying other children during school hours.
He says eight other learners confronted them and they stopped, however after school, the pepper spray perpetrators emerged at school in the company of unknown suspects who are not from the school.
Mabona says a fight broke out between the two groups and one learner was fatally stabbed.
He says another pupil suffered minor injuries while another alleged perpetrator was seriously injured.
"We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of one of our pupils, especially at the hands of such a violent act. We strongly disapprove of pupils fighting among each other. We wish to extend our sincerest condolences to the affected family and school community at large," said Chiloane.
The Department did not release the name of the deceased but he has been identified by friends on social media as Sean Namhlanje.
