Grabouw protesters appear in court

Eleven people, accused of public violence, were released on a warning by the Grabouw Magistrate's Court on tuesday.

Western Cape police spokesperson, Warrant Officer November Filander says charges against ten others were temporarily withdrawn, due to insufficient evidence.

The matter was postponed to May 21.

The group were arrested on Monday, after tyres were set alight on the N2 freeway during a protest in Grabouw.

Residents burned down a school last week, demanding additional facilities, and an end to overcrowding. On Monday, protesters also burned down two ward councillors' homes and a municipal building.
