Five people are in a serious condition and between 800 and 1,000 have been evacuated following a gast leak in a building in Randburg's central business district.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks says 8 people were treated at the scene, of which 5 were in a serious condition.
The leak of an unknown type of gas spread through the building's ventilation system late Friday morning.
Wicks says the people who were treated at the scene, were taken to a nearby medical station away from the building.
