Garden Route mandrax busts

CAPE TOWN, March 5 (ANA) – SA Police Service flying squad members in the Southern Cape region achieved a number of successes this weekend, Western Cape police said on Saturday.

“On the N1 in the De Gamaskop [police] cluster they seized 15,069 units of abalone and made one arrest,” Captain FC van Wyk said.

A 29-year-old man from Hermanus was charged and would appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrate’s Court on Monday, he said.

“On the N2 bridge in Wilderness, a 47-year-old woman was arrested by [the] flying squad for possession of 1000 Mandrax tablets worth R50,000.

“In the third incident, flying squad [members] followed up on information in Oudtshoorn and arrested a 43-year-old suspect for possession of a consignment of 5000 Mandrax tablets worth R300,000.”

The suspects would appear in court on Monday. Western Cape police management had commended the officers for their sterling work, Van Wyk said.
