Free State police are searching for a rape suspect with a half a tongue.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Ikobeng Hlubi, said the suspect broke into the home of a woman in Chris-Hani township in Bloemfontein on Friday morning.
“The victim was allegedly woken up by the voice of an unknown male who instructed her to undress and when she refused, the suspect began to assault her and threaten her with a knife,” she said.
“The suspect then forcefully kissed the victim, and the victim seized the opportunity to fight back by biting her assailant's tongue off. The suspect was not deterred as he continued to rape and stab the victim, said Hlubi.
She said the suspect was seen at a national hospital on Friday morning but fled before police could get hold of him.
Sergeant Hlubi said he is bound to seek medical attention.
The matter is being investigated by Mangaung Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
