Free State police arrest seven suspects for possession of copper wire and counterfeit liquor

Free State police have arrested seven suspects from Kwazulu-Natal headed to Gauteng for being in possession of a large quantity of counterfeit liquor and copper wire.

Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele says police stopped and searched two suspicious vehicles on the N3 outside Harrismith on Friday.

He says a large quantity of counterfeit liquor with an estimated value of R117 000 was found a minibus.

All the liquor and the vehicle were seized and two people were arrested for possession of counterfeit property.

Makhele says a bakkie with five occupants was later stopped and searched, and police found 463kg of copper wire with an estimated value of R50 000.

All five occupants were arrested for suspected stolen property.

The seven suspects will appear in the Harrismith Magistrate's Court on Monday.
