Free State government mum on Vrede Dairy report for now

The Free State provincial government will not be able to comment further on any of the contents of the controversial Vrede Dairy Farm report until it has satisfied itself, and also sought guidance on how to address it.

This is according to spokesperson Tiisetso Makhele, after it came to light that the outcomes of the highly anticipated Public Protector investigation were quietly released.

He said the provincial government acknowledges the release of advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane's report and will study it.

The recommendations and remedial action as set out by the Public Protector will also be looked into. Premier Ace Magashule is expected to submit an implementation plan for remedial action within 30 days.

Mkhwebane found procurement irregularities, "gross negligence" and maladministration related to the controversial project.

According to the leaked #Gupta emails, R220 million earmarked for the project was looted out of the province, and over R30m of this money was used to fund the Gupta Sun City Wedding.
