A Free State farm manager from Middelpunt Farm District appeared briefly in the Kestell Magistrates Court on Wednesday where an attempted murder charge against him was changed to murder.
Police Spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele says 30-year-old Frikkie van Huyssteen and 28-year-old farmworker Thokozani Joseph Mdlhuli were busy offloading steel pipes on the farm in September last year when a quarrel broke out.
He says it is alleged that Van Huyssteen shot Mdlhuli in the neck at close range after he was allegedly assaulted with a steel pipe.
Mdluhli was rushed to hospital and Van Huysteen was charged with attempted murder.
Brigadier Makhele says Mdluhli's condition deteriorated and he died on the 28th of January.
Van Huyssteen is now charged with murder and remains out on bail of R800.
The matter was postponed to the 28th of May for further investigation.
