Four people were killed in the early hours of Wednesday morning when an SA Roadlink bus overturned on the N-1 in the southern Free State.
Police spokesperson, captain Harry Nagel, says six other passengers were seriously injured while 22 others suffered minor injuries.
He says the bus overturned after the driver said he swerved to avoid an animal in the road.
Nagel says the accident happened just before 5am on the road between Springfontein and Gariep Dam.
The bus was travelling from Cape Town to Bloemfontein.
A case of culpable homicide is under investigation.
