A 60-year-old man from Kwazulu Natal has been arrested as part of an online child porn investigation being conducted with US authorities.
National police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, said the man was arrested at his flat in Umbilo on Thursday.
She said he is one of the 27 alleged online sexual predators identified by South African police as part of a joint international investigation with the US Department of Homeland Security.
Mathe said in the past week, three other people identified in the investigation, were arrested in Gauteng.
In an earlier statement, she said members from Serial and Electronic Crime Investigation (SECI) at SAPS head office and in Gauteng conducted preliminary investigations on the users, and various provinces were identified in which the suspects reside.
Mathe said after several months of investigation and planning, the perpetrators were identified and a joint operation was planned.
One suspect arrested in Springs was a 63-year-old British man said to be in the country illegally and who is charged with beastiality.
The other two are South Africans who face a string of charges including the possession, manufacture, and distribution of child pornography.
They have already made court appearances and remain in custody as the investigation continues.
