Four alleged hijackers have been shot dead during a shootout in Midrand, Gauteng.
Police spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale says two other suspects were arrested by a multi-disciplinary law enforcement team.
He says they received information about the suspects who were planning to hijack a truck in Midrand and a team was established to thwart the crime.
Colonel Mogale says the suspects' vehicle was spotted on Olifantsfontein road in Glen Austin and when officers pounced the suspects started firing shots.
He says a high-speed chase ensued and police returned fire killing four.
Two unlicensed firearms and four vehicles were confiscated by police.
