Two South Africans and two foreign nationals are due to appear in court on Thursday for allegedly trying to smuggle stolen vehicles across the border into Zimbabwe.
Polokwane police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said the four were arrested in separate incidents at the Beit Bridge border post earlier this week.
He said the suspects, aged between 28 and 64, were apprehended after they were stopped at the vehicle control point.
“Police discovered that the drivers of all three vehicles; a Ford Ranger (with one passenger), Audi Q7, and Mercedes Benz Actros truck, were in possession of fraudulent documents, and the VIN numbers were also altered,” he said.
Ledwaba said the vehicles were reported stolen in Gauteng province.
He said Limpopo acting commissioner, Major-General Jan Scheepers, welcomed the arrests, saying that it was “testimony to the ongoing efforts of the SAPS to clamp down on vehicle theft and cross-border crimes”.
The four face charges of being in possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles.
