Police in Gauteng are investigating the deaths of four young learners who died after consuming food, suspected to have been poisoned.
Two boys aged seven and nine and an eight-year-old girl who attended Karabo Primary School died, allegedly on Sunday, while an eight-year-old boy from Khauhelo Primary School also died.
Gauteng MEC for Education Matome Chiloane says another Grade 1 learner from Karabo Primary School is in the ICU.
He urged parents to exercise caution regarding the food consumed by their children.
Both schools are situated in Soweto.
One of the deceased learners allegedly consumed snacks from a nearby spaza shop in Naledi.
