Four people were shot and killed, and three others were wounded when gunmen attacked a tavern in Kgobokwane in Mpumalanga on Sunday night.
Police said the suspects were reportedly carrying high calibre firearms, when they began shooting randomly at the patrons at the tavern in Siyabuswa, in Mbombela.
Spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said three people died on the scene while a fourth later succumbed to their injuries in hospital.
No one has been arrested yet but a task team has been established under the leadership of the provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General, Daphney Manamela.
"The motive for the shooting is currently unknown, and this quest will form part of the investigation.
Police are appealing to anyone with information on the shooters to come forward," Mdhluli said.
