Four people have been arrested in connection with the deaths of 14 Lesotho nationals whose bodies were found in Benoni earlier this month.
Acting police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Khomotso Phahlane, said Tuesday that one of the suspects was arrested in South Africa and three others were found in Lesotho.
The bodies of the 14 people, thought to be illegal miners, were found on the 5th and 6th of March in the vicinity of a railway line in Benoni.
“We are at this stage in talks with Interpol to expedite extradition processes,” Phahlane said.
He said unlicensed fire-arms that were found in their possession in Lesotho are subjected to forensic analysis.
Phahlane also appealed to anyone with information to come forward and assist the South African Police Service in bringing the perpetrators of both crimes to book.
