A former Western Cape policeman has been jailed for 25 years for raping a 15-year-old girl in Montagu nearly nine years ago.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate, IPID, said Warrant Officer Frederick Soldaat (64) was sentenced on Monday in a Montagu court.
IPID spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping said the girl had an argument with her mother and Soldaat, with the mother’s permission, took the girl to the police station to “calm” her down.
“When they arrived at the police station, he took the complainant to the trauma room and raped her,” said IPID spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping
He said Soldaat was arrested by the watchdog body on 2 September 2016, when he was 55 years old, and he resigned from the South African Police Service in 2017.
Shuping said the case was in court for several years due to postponements before Soldaat was guilty on 13 March 2025.
He said the court also ordered that his name should be included in the National Register for Sex Offenders.
