Former South African golfer Wayne Westner has been killed in a shooting incident in Pennington on the KZN south coast.
The 55-year-old's body was found with a single gunshot wound to the head on Wednesday morning.
The police’s Thulani Zwane says an inquest docket has been opened following the alleged suicide.
He says Westner allegedly went to his wife's residence in the Pennington area where he shot himself.
Westner won the South African open twice - both times at the Durban Country Club.
