Former Deputy Minister Manana back in court on assault charges

Former deputy minister of Higher Education, Mduduzi Manana, is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

He is facing two counts of assault to cause grievous bodily harm for hitting two women at a restaurant in Fourways, North of Johannesburg, last month.

Manana, 34, has been under fire since he allegedly assaulted Mandisa Duma at a Fourways, Johannesburg, nightclub two weeks ago.

He has subsequently issued a public apology but said he had acted following “extreme provocation”.

Manana was granted R5,000 bail in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on August 10, on two counts of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. He has reportedly also faced assault charges in the past.

He resigned on August 19.
