Two men are due to appear in court on Monday after former Springbok player, Lukas van Biljon, was stabbed several times when six men entered a house on a smallholding in Oranjeville.
Police spokesperson, Captain Lorraine Earle, said the incident happened after midnight on Saturday when the men entered the house and fired several shots at 70-year-old Andre van Biljon who tried to call for help.
"Van Biljon sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and hand," she saidl
Captain Earle said his son, 47-year-old Lukas, was stabbed several times while the assailants also tied up the children with cable ties.
The suspects fled with a Range Rover which was recovered on Strydom Street in Oranjeville.
She said they then jumped into a Toyota Camry to get away as the police approached, but the vehicle was stopped at a roadblock in Viljoensdrift where the two men, aged 32 and 42, were arrested and the vehicle confiscated.
The two face charges of attempted murder and house robbery.
