A former '7de Laan' actor is under police guard in hospital after he allegedly shot and killed his 29-year-old partner in Norkem Park in Gauteng on Thursday.
The arrest comes after police discovered the body the deceased in a cottage on the property.
Upon arrival on the scene the 50-year-old suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Police spokesperson Barbara-Anne Ferreira said he was arrested and taken to Tembisa Hospital after it was found he had taken an overdose of tablets.
She said it is believed the suspect was an actor who featured in a number of South African soap operas, including '7de Laan'.
In a statement issued on Friday, ‘7de Laan’ said: “Production has made efforts to establish whom the said individual might be however as per law, a suspect’s identity cannot be disclosed until such a time that they have formally charged.
We can however confirm that the individual in question is not part of our current cast," the statement read.
He is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
