Five foreign nationals have appeared in court after being apprehended by Free State farmers.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, said the Mozambican nationals appeared in the Warden Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
They were charged with attempted murder, attempted burglary (residential), robbery with a firearm, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and assault common.
“The suspects, all Mozambicans, were arrested by farmers on Friday after they earlier that day tried to break into Karkloof farm in the Verkykerskop area,” Makhele said.
He said the men also assaulted and robbed farmworkers.
They were remanded in custody and will be back in court again on 8 December for a bail hearing.
